As for me, I am really thankful the flood happened on Sunday. Just one day before, my mother was there selling her wares at the weekend bazaar! What a close shave for her!

  1. It's quite frightening that a flash flood should occur without warning. Nevertheless, instead of panicking, the shopkeepers and shoppers should cooperate in bringing the situation under control.

  2. in the video, the minister dr vivian has assured us that they would work on our drainage system. Heavy floods like this can cause people to be panic but in this case i think that out Civil Defence Force is well prepared. though shoppers were caught off-guard but they were still able to keep calm. the goverment has done a great job in telling us how to keep calm in times like this.

  3. It's scary alright to have water suddenly flooding into the mall when you least expect it. Especially when it is worser than the previous round of flash floods. At least we were more prepared this time.

I Think that the stall holders will suffer great loss of money as the flood in the Tanglin Mall was during the Great Singapore Sales. Despite the issues of sandbags, the raging flood waters just flowed through them easily. The minster, Dr Vivian, had assured the people of Singapore that he will improve on the drainage system of Singapore. Hopefully, no more floods will occur .

If i was at Tanglin Mall, it would be very scary as water would suddenly flood into the mall. I pity the stall owners as they had to close their shops for clean-up as their store was flooded. Despite using the sandbags, water still flow through to flood the shops. Minister Dr Vivian had assured that he will improve the drainage system. Hopefully, no more floods will occur anymore.

  7. Luckily,at Hougang area there is no flood as there is good drainage system but it is quite pitiful for the places that has poor drainage system.Like at Tanglin Mall, when shoppers are shopping halfway, water started flooding in and shoppers have to leave the mall halfway during their shopping trip. The shop keepers have to put sand bags to block the water.

  9. My grandfather's house was also flooded ( around 10 cm ) Luckily i did not stay there or else i would be surrounded by water. Those shoppers must be very angry and I pity those shop owners. The children must have got real excited and the parents must be real worried.I hope other shopping centers will learn from this unlucky incident and improve their drainage systems before the rain strike again

  10. I was at home that time, reading,so i didn't care much but found out what happened on the news,i was quite shocked. Now is flooding, will any more disaster come one after another? I was quite impressed with what the shoppers did,if it was me,i would be clueless, not knowing what to do next. However,i thought there would be chaos, but that was not that bad as they worked together. I would of course hope none of the people were hurt especially if my family was one of the victims. Our country is actually quite blessed as there are not much natural disasters happening,I seriously hope that the people will built a better and more drainage system to prevent more floods.Hope god bless us.:D

  11. It was really scary as the water came gushing in without any warning. Although the shop owners used sandbags to block the water, the water just went through it. I pity the shop owners as they had to close the shops since their shops were flooded. I think the government should improve more on the drainage system.

  12. I would always think that flood would not occur in Singapore, fortunately after I saw the article,I was very shocked.I think that there should be a system in the shopping center that collects rain water to prevent floods in shopping center occuring.Nevertheless,we should be prepared in any natural disasters occuring so that we could be ready in any cases.

  15. After this incident, it has provided a valuable lesson for the people and the government. This has, very much , reveal the flaws in our drainage system and that much can be done to prevent this incident form striking again. Regardless of the damage and inconvenience caused, this has raised our alertness in reacting to this type of situation, preventing its occurence once again. I hope that this incident would not strike Singapore again.

Sometimes I feel that we Singaporeans are not prepared for any danger at all. The fact that we encounter little dangers daily really affects how we react. For example, the flash flood at Tanglin Mall caused panic among the residents. That added on to the chaos and mayhem. The Government should educate the people on how they should react in an emergency.

I felt relief that when the flooding has occurred in Tanglin Mall, I was not there. If I am one of the shopkeepers, I would feel sad as I had lost money.I think that the using of the sandbags was not an effective way as water just flowed through it. Therefore, I think the government should find ways to improve the drainage system to reduce the impact of flooding.

I feel that the drainage systems should be improved as when there are more occasional heavy downpours in the future and Tanglin mall gets flooded again, people may avoid going to Tanglin mall and the business of the shops would be affected.

  23. Even though Singapore's drainage system is excellent, terrible floods still have occurred. Thus, just like the shop owners of Tanglin Mall, we have to be prepared and not take our safe living environment granted. It is also saddening that the flood had taken away people's free time and the shop's goods.

  25. Although Singapore has great drainage system, dreadful floods can still occur. I felt sorry for the shop owners of Tanglin Mall. We must be well prepared for other floods that might be more terrible.

  28. I am happy that I was not caught in the flash flood, though, I pity the people that were stuck in the mall. The next time a flash flood occurs, we should be ready for it. We were lucky that no one was hurt.

  29. I am glad that there were no fatalities. But I think that the drainage systems of the mall and the area around it can be improved.I am glad that I was not affected but i feel sorry for those affected, especially the shop owners because they will lose money for repairs.
