Note:

1. The words in blue is a noun phrase, i.e. subject and verb do not co-exist.

2. The noun form for generous is generosity. The letter 'u' has to be dropped.

3. Success is spelled with double 'c' and double 's'. (careless transfer error)

Q2. The concert was extended only because the audience responded well.

Answer: The concert was extended due to (the) good response of the audience.

The concert was extended due to the audience's good response.

Note:

1. The words in blue is a noun phrase, i.e. subject and verb do not co-exist.

2. The noun form for respond is response.

3. In the first answer, the use of determiner 'the' is optional since the stem does not have a clear indication about the response.

4. In the second answer, apostrophe s ('s) must be used to show that the response came from the audience.

5. The word 'well' in the stem is an adverb. It described the manner of the response.

An adverb cannot be used to describe 'response' (a noun). We use an adjective to describe a noun, in this case 'good'.

Q3. The soccer match was cancelled this morning. It was raining heavily.

Answer: The soccer match was cancelled this morning due to (the) heavy rain.

Note:

1. Do not change 'this' morning to 'that' morning. Follow the stem. This is not reported speech.

2. The use of determiner 'the' is optional since the stem does not have a clear indication about the heavy rain.

Q4. The old man cannot walk long distances. He has a weak heart.

Answer: Due to having a weak heart, the old man cannot walk long distances.

Due to his weak heart, the old man cannot walk long distances.

Note:

1. The subject is 'the old man'. The name of the subject is written in the main clause, not the sub- phrase.

2. distances, not distance! (Careless transfer error)

Q5. There is pollution. The fish are dying.

Answer: The fish are dying due to pollution.

Note:

1. Do not add determiner 'the' to pollution. Follow the stem.

2. Do not change the tense. Follow the stem.
